There are 3 food products that get me very excited these days: miso, hemp oil and sauerkraut. Why, you ask? Allow me to gush about my beloved food friends:
Miso, a fermented soybean paste, is chock-full of beneficial enzymes that enhance digestion and your immunity. Studies are linking miso consumption to reduced cancer rates. I like to make miso soup, but you can mix it into any soup instead of using salt. You can also use it to flavor salad dressings. Just go light with it due to the sodium content.
Hemp oil is the extracted oil from hemp seeds, which have a great ratio of Omega 3's and 6's, and are known to support heart health, brain function and even give you glowing skin and shiny hair. Just don't heat it, as it is a delicate oil that breaks down under heat. I like to drizzle some on a salad instead of olive oil. Keep it stored in the fridge.
Sauerkraut, which is fermented cabbage, helps to digest a meal. All you need is a modest teaspoon at the end of any meal to reap the benefits. When your digestion is working efficiently you will have more energy and vitality. Sauerkraut has been touted as an immune booster and cancer fighter. As with the miso, just use it sparingly due to the high sodium content. You can even rinse it before serving to lower the salt content.
So there you have it, my favorite super foods of the moment. What are your favorite super foods?
